Should a household buy a battery?

7.5 to 167Real household energy data from open research datasets

Same battery, different answer

years for the same 10 kWh battery to pay back, depending on the home

What was observed
Household electricity use and solar, home by home, with retail prices.
What a generic approach says
Quote one payback period for a battery.
What the engine read
The same 10 kWh battery paid back in 7.5 years for one home and 167 for another; for 20 homes without solar, the answer was do not buy.
What it meant for the decision
A decision about one household needs that household's own data. The same engine values price forecasts too: over one month of market prices, a forecast was worth 15% to 63% of perfect foresight to a battery, depending on the region, and in one region a fixed rule did better.
